| Basal squamules evanescent; not seen in Australian specimens. Podetia 2–8 cm tall, 0.5–2 mm diam., dying at base, richly branched, esorediate, escyphiferous, corticate; cortex continuous to areolate, with or without squamules on podetia; branching irregularly dichotomous or sympodial, with irregularly subcorymbose apical branching; axils open, often gaping. Apothecia terminal on podetia, 0.2–1 mm diam., convex, pale brown to brown. Pycnidia terminal on podetia, 0.3 mm tall, c. 0.2 mm diam., subconical, dark brown to black. CHEMISTRY: K-, KC-, P+ red. Fumarprotocetraric (major) and protocetraric (trace) acids. | ||
| Occurs in all States and mainland Territories except W.A. and N.T., and also on Lord Howe Is. and Macquarie Is.; cosmopolitan; grows on soil and plant debris. | ||
